Mediation and Documents
Flexible, Customized Services Based on Your Needs
Initial Call
Book an initial call to discuss whether mediation might be the right fit for you and get an idea what the cost would be based on the services you need.
Joint Consultation
Attend a 90 minute online meeting ($199+HST per person) with your partner to learn about the mediation process, identify the issues you need to resolve, find out what documents you’ll need and plan a process that fits your budget. You’ll gain a better understanding of the legal framework for each of the issues during this consultation and be ready to take the next steps.
Screening
Consider whether mediation is likely to result in a fair and reasonable outcome given the dynamics of your relationship and discuss ways to put both participants on a safe and even footing before starting the process. Screening is an essential and mandatory part of the mediation process for mediators accredited with the Ontario Association of Family Mediators.
Joint Session
Online meeting to identify what documents need to be shared between the participants (disclosure), review statements and calculations, discuss and resolve the main issues, and review and finalize draft agreements.
Separation Agreement
Professionally drafted Separation Agreement based on the agreements reached in mediation. This may include a Parenting Plan, Support Calculations, Net Family Property Statement and other schedules prepared by the mediator. These agreements are legally binding when signed and witnessed. The price of a custom package ranges from $1,500+HST per person to $5,000+HST per person depending on the documents and services required and the complexity of the situation.
Memorandum of Understanding
A documentary record of your agreements that is not legally binding unless you take steps to convert it to a formal legal document or court order. This is usually fine for those who prefer to take the next steps on their own or with their lawyer (e.g. filing for a consent order, drafting a formal agreement or settlement) or don’t need a formal legal document.
Voice of the Child Reports
A Voice of the Child Report gives children a safe and comfortable way to share how they feel about changes in their family. It helps ensure that their perspective is heard and respected when parents are making decisions or working through mediation.
This process isn’t about children choosing sides—it’s about helping adults understand what matters most to them.
If both parents want to hear their child’s wishes, Karen meets with children in a calm, age-appropriate setting to talk about things like living arrangements, parenting time, and family routines. She listens carefully and summarizes the child’s views in a written report that can be shared in mediation, with lawyers, or in court if needed.
Voice of the Child Reports can help parents make better, child-focused decisions and reduce conflict by keeping the focus where it belongs—on the child’s needs and well-being. These reports are usually prepared for children ten years old and over.
The price of this service starts at $500+HST and depends on several factors including the location of the children and mode of meeting (Karen is located in Renfrew County, Ontario), the number of children involved, urgency and complexity. Please book a call below to enquire about your situation.
